AHIRINI + ARI: “JASSI’S FINE INDIAN” WEDDING CELEBRATION

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of covering a party celebrating the marriage of Ari and Ahirini (whose close friends call her Ahi).  This one tugs at your heart strings and has extra meaning – it’s not your typical love story.  Ari and Ahi’s story is one of patience and perseverance and proof that, even separated by distance, true love will conquer all.  Ari and Ahi met in 1999 in Kolkata, India and hit it off right away.  Ari left India for New York City in 2001 and their budding friendship was put on hold.  In 2006, Ari went back to visit and caught up with Ahi on 5 years of missed time.  After Ari’s visit, the two were separated again until he went back to India due to a family tragedy in 2011.  Ahi was out of town but Ari wasn’t deterred – throughout his visit they spoke over the phone, reconnecting as if no time had passed.  The two clearly still had a solid friendship so, although Ari returned to NYC, the long distance chats became a regular part of their lives.  Ari was falling in love with Ahi and finally got the guts to tell her how he felt.  On November 30, 2012, Ari and Ahi got married in India but the two had to be apart until Ahi could get the proper paperwork processed for her to live in the US.

These two love birds were separated for 10 months and kept reminding each other to hang on to their dreams of finally being able to be with each other one day.  That day finally came and now Ahi and Ari are together in New York City.  Last week’s party was to celebrate this joyous occasion with their closest friends and family.  The party was at Jassi’s Fine Indian Cuisine in Long Island.  The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the decorations Ari and Ahi made brought the entire room together.  They hand-made the place cards, table numbers, the guest book, and even the candlelit marbled glasses!

When planning their big day, Ari told us there would be a simple first dance.  The first dance, in typical Indian fashion, was actually a rocking, energetic one and quite elaborate!  There was plenty of great food and music all night long.

There was a touching moment during Ari’s speech when he mentioned that, on many nights, his friends would ask him to hang out during those ten months apart from his wife.  Ari explained that he would turn his friends’ requests down because he wanted to Skype with his wife.  The dedication between these two is palpable and quite moving.
