We had a mother and son photo session with Tamika and Tai recently at Orchard Beach. This Bronx beach was built in the 30s and was billed as the Riviera of NY when it was created. When Pak was a kid growing up in the Bronx, he used to go here with his parents so it was fun and nostalgic to return (the beach is also a lot nicer now).
Tamika, who has given us permission to write about her courageous story, has gone through quite a lot in the last few years battling both breast cancer and thyroid cancer. This amazing woman beat breast cancer in March 2013 as well as thyroid cancer in June 2013. With her every step of the way was her loving well-mannered son Tai. Tamika was very excited to have this session with Tai who aspires to become a chef.
This was not the first time we have worked with Tamika and Tai. Last February at the end of Tamika’s battle with breast cancer, we had another mother and son session with them. We are also very proud to have made the last two powerful abstract photographs for Tamika.
Tamika and Tai, thanks for another successful photo session. Best of luck to Tai who is pursuing his dreams (he starts at culinary college next semester). Tamika, we wish the best for you as well. We admire your perseverance and courage and sincerely hope that the sky’s the limit for you.
Your photographers and friends for life,
